How Much is a Portion of Rice?

If you search this query on the internet, you might notice that there is varying advice on exactly how much a portion of rice should weigh.

It’s also important to consider that some weights might either be in dried or cooked weight, which will vary greatly because white rice increases in size by three times the original weight once cooked in water.

The recommended average-sized portion of rice is 75g/2.64oz (dry weight), which increases to a cooked weight of around 225g/7.9oz. If you prefer a larger portion, then use 100g/3.5oz of dried rice, which will increase in weight to around 300g/10.6oz once cooked.

Advice on rice serving sizes also differs depending on where you live, for example, the recommended serving size in the US is half a cup, which is around 100g, and in the UK, the recommended serving size is 75g of dried rice per person.
