It’s a question that is difficult to give a straightforward answer to because bread comes in so many shapes and sizes, with different ingredients and slice thicknesses.
So, I’ve researched average bread weights and sizes and specific brands to give you a definitive answer on exactly how many calories are in your slice of bread and butter. Read on to find the information you need in our quick and easy charts.

How Much Butter Do You Put on Bread?
Before you can work out how many calories are in your slice of bread and butter, you need to know how much butter you have on your bread.
Because butter is high in calories, a small amount can make a big difference, especially if you’re trying to stick to a certain amount of calories per day.
I did some research to find an average amount of butter or margarine per slice of bread, and I found the following;
The average amount of butter or margarine you need to lightly cover a slice of bread is 5g or one teaspoon per slice. 10g of butter gives a thicker coverage, and 15g gives a very thick butter covering per slice.
