How Much Does an Unshelled Almond Weigh?

I weighed a number of unshelled blanched (skinless) and raw (skin on) almonds and found the following:

The average weight of one unshelled blanched almond is around 1.2g per nut (0.04oz), and the average weight of a raw almond weighs 1.3g (0.05oz) per nut.

Smaller unshelled almonds weigh around 1g (0.035oz), and larger almonds can weigh up to 1.5g (0.053oz).

How Much Does an Almond Weigh in the Shell?

I weighed a number of store-bought almonds with the shell still on and found the following:

The average weight of one almond including the outer shell is around 8g (0.28oz).

They will weigh more when fresh from the tree because they’ve not dried out, but for the purpose of this article, I’ve based the weight on dried, ready-to-eat nuts.

How Much Does a US Cup of almonds Weigh

I weighed a cup full of unshelled almonds (both blanched and raw) and counted the number of nuts it contained and found the following:

A full US cup of almonds weighs around 5oz (142g) and contains around 118 individual blanched almonds or 109 raw almonds in total.

Half a US cup of almonds weighs around 2.5oz (71g) and contains around 59 individual blanched almonds or 55 raw almonds.
